FortThe golden yellow Jaisalmer Fort dates back to the time immemorial.
Every part of Jaisalmer Fort including outer walls, temples and houses are made
of soft yellow Jurassic sandstone. The narrow winding streets are flanked with
carved sandy facades that add to the charm of the fort. A paved road punctuated
by four huge gateways winds up to the fort.
Patwon-ki-haveli,
JaisalmerCountless havelis, spread across Jaisalmer are reputed
as city's real showpieces. Each of these extravagant mansions comprises three
or more storeys around a central courtyard. The large Patwon-ki-haveli is the
most interesting one among them with five separate suites. Traces of stylish wall
paintings can still be found in some rooms. The exuberantly carved jharokhas or
the protruding balconies are the most striking features of the haveli.
Gadi
Sagar Tank, JaisalmerGadi Sagar Tank, built in 1367, was once Jaisalmer's
sole water supply. There are many ghats and temples located on its north and east
banks that add to its medieval charm. The place comes alive every year during
the Gangaur Festival.
Folklore Museum, JaisalmerThe
interesting Folklore Museum displays some of the best articles. The locally styled
wooden statues of Radha and Krishna, musical instruments, paintings and travelling
temples are all from the personal collection of its proprietor.
