Mandore
Mandore
is only 8kms from Jodhpur and has beautiful gardens and rock terraces. It has
been a humming city since the 5th century and has its fair share of forts and
palaces, gardens and plantations. Mandore was the royal funeral ground for many
years and hence has several cenotaphs.

The places of interest are Hall of heroes (houses sixteen gigantic
figures chiseled out of a single rock and the memorials of the former maharajas),
Ajit Pol (the gate built in celebration of Ajit Singh's victory over the Mughals
in the early 18th century), Palace of Abhai Singh (beautiful palace that encloses
a small museum) and Memorial of Maharaja Ajit Singh (the temple-shaped memorial
- the largest and finest).
Nagaur
Nagaur
was the cause of many a battles because of its strategic location. It has a massive
fort and there are old palaces, water cisterns and other structures built inside
the fortified area. Some of the walls have elaborate scenes painted on them. The
main attractions are Dargah of Khwaja Hamiduddin Nagauri and Amar Singh Rathore-ki-Chhatri.

of Interest in Nagaur However, Nagaur is the most popular for the cattle
fair that is held here annually. The Nagauri breed cattle are renowned and during
the fair a large number of cows, bullocks, oxen and camels are traded. Folk dance,
music, traditional Rajasthani food and colorful attires are an integral part of
the fair.
Nathdwara
Approximately
50kms from Udaipur is Nathdwara, the popular Hindu pilgrimage location that is
visited by numerous devotees every year. It is situated on the banks of the Beas
river and is the site for one of the most distinguished shrines of India that
is dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Places of Interest in Nathdwara The
Srinathji Temple is famous for the image depicting Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhana
hill to overcome Lord Indra. This image was originally worshipped in another shrine
and then moved to its current location as a larger temple was built for it. Vaishnavite
shrine was constructed in the 17th century and is among the most famous shrines
in India. Within the temple is a glorious image of Lord Krishna believed to be
dating back to the 12th century BC.
Nawalgarh
Founded
in the mid-18th century, Nawalgarh is the site of some of the most breathtaking
frescoes. The town still retains its medieval charm and a walk down the streets
will definitely transport you back to a bygone era. Be sure to stop at the bazaars
on the way. Bustling with activity, the bazaar offers some of the most exquisite
items for sale.
Places of Interest in NawalgarhThe Nawalgarh
Fort is an old fort. Within its premises are some lavishly painted "havelis"
or mansions including Anandi Lal Poddar Haveli, Jodhraj Patodia Haveli, Bansidhar
Bhagat Haveli and Chokhani Haveli. The Roop Niwas Palace has been converted into
a hotel, which combines the medieval ambience with modern facilities.
