Pushkar
According
to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma, the Creator of the Universe, chose Pushkar as
the site for performing a Yajna (sacrificial rites). Countless devotees visit
Pushkar, which is considered as one of the most holy lands in India. The devotees
wash away their sins by bathing in the holy waters at Pushkar. The town has fifty-two
bathing ghats for the purpose.
Places of Interest in Pushkar Unlike
the devotees, what attracts the foreign tourists to this land is the famous Pushkar
Fair. This is basically a cattle fair but camels and horses are also traded in
the fair along with the cattle. Cattle and camel races add to the excitement.
Competitions and cultural programmes are organized and it is unmistakably the
time for merrymaking.
Ramgarh
The
famous Poddar merchants left the village of Churu after a disagreement with the
"Takur" (landlord). The Poddar family of merchants then founded Ramgarh
in the late 18th century.
Places of Interest in Ramgarh The
places of interest include Ramgopal Poddar Chhatri (the marvelous cenotaph with
exquisitely painted scenes from the Epic, Ramayana), Poddar Havelis (the grand
mansions built by the founders), Shaniji Temple (with intricately made artistic
frescoes), Ganga temple and some attractive "havelis" (mansions).
Rajsamand
Situated
65kms from Udaipur, is the famous dam that was built by Maharana Raj Singh in
the latter half of the 17th century. Beautiful arches and splendid chhatris were
built on the embankment.
Places of Interest in Rajsamand The
Rajsamand Lake is definitely worth a visit. Serene and scenic, the Rajsamand lake
is the royal lake and affords a panoramis view of the sun rising and setting.
There are some well-manicured gardens and carved chhatris surrounding the lake.
Ranakpur
Ranakpur
is a pilgrimage destination and is one of the five prime holy places for the Jains.
Situated approximately a hundred kilometers from Udaipur, this town is famous
for the marvelously carved Jain Temples. These temples are made with exqusite
amber stone and were built during the 15th century.

in Ranakpur The 'Chaumukha' or the four-faced temple is open on all four
sides. It is dedicated to Tirthankara Rishabhji and has a four-faced image of
Adinath inside. The temple is astonishing, with twenty-nine halls and over a thousand
pillars, which are finely and uniquely carved. There are two more temples that
are dedicated to the Jain saints, Parsvanath and Neminath. These, too, have attractive
