Sikar Founded
in the late 17th century, Sikar is famous for its "havelis" (mansion)
with beautiful frescoes and intricately carved temples. Sikar was one of the rich
towns and a massive fort was erected to protect it from invasions. There is a
large bazaar where you can pick up some souvenirs to be carried home.
Places
of Interest in Sikar The main attraction is the Lachhmangarh Fort, which
looks impregnable and affords a complete view of the entire town. Inside the fort
are splendid monuments with attractive murals including Gopinath Temple, Raghunath
Temple and Madan Mohan Temple. The Chini Mahal or the China Palace is done up
in blue-and-white porcelain. Other attractions include Sagarmal Sodhani haveli,
Madho Niwas-Kothi and Jubilee Hall.
Tonk Founded
in the mid-17th century, Tonk's environment speaks of its cross-cultural influences.
This is a small and tranquil town situated about a hundred kilometers from Jaipur,
the capital of Rajasthan.
Places of Interest in Tonk The main
attraction is the Sunheri Kothi or the Golden Mansion. The interiors of this mansion
are beautifully decorated with stained glass, mirrors and plaster. Toda Rai Singh
is an archaeologically significant town that is situated in the Tonk district.
This ancient town was founded in the 4th century and has a number of places of
tourist interest including Hadi Rani ki Baori, Raja Rai Singh's Mahal, Isar Baori,
Bhopat Baori, Kalyanji Temple and Gopinathji Temple.
