Alwar Fort is located in the Alwar district of the state of Rajasthan. This fort is also known as Bala Quila. The fort of Alwar/Bala Qila is situated on a hill about 6 km away from the city. It was built by Hasan Khan in 1550.
Bala Fort Alwar is situated at an altitude of 1960 feet above sea level. Which is spread over a radius of 8 km. The most important thing about this fort is that this fort was also ruled by Marathas, Yadavas, and Kachwaha Rajputs.
This fort is so huge that it is spread over an area of 5 km from north to south and 1.6 km from east to west. The fort has six gates namely Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Krishna Pol, and Andheri Gate. All these gates speak of the valor and chivalry of Rajputs.
This fort was specially designed to fire at the enemy. The Alwar Fort is built in the Kayamkhani style. There are several holes in the walls of the fort, which are surrounded by 8 bastions and 15 large and 51 small towers to shoot the enemy. Out of which 10-foot cannon can also be fired.
The fort of Alwar has been ruled by Nikumbh, Khan Jada, Mughals, Marathas, Jat Rajputs. This fort was built by Hasan Khan Mewati in 1550 AD. Thereafter, the Alwar Fort was ruled by the Mughals, Marathas, and Jats.
Finally, in 1775, Kachwaha Rajput Pratap Singh captured this fort and also laid the foundation of the city of Alwar.
It is said that Mughal emperor Babur spent one night in the fort while Jahangir lived for three years during exile and at that time he named it Salim Mahal. The room in the fort where Jahangir stayed is known as Salim Mahal.
The architecture of Alwar Fort
Alwar Fort is famous for its architecture. The inner part is divided into several parts. There are stairs from many sides to reach from one place to another.
Alwar Fort is counted among the largest forts of Rajasthan. The fort is built in many styles and has beautiful scriptures and sculptures on the walls of the fort.
Apart from these beautiful carvings, the fort also houses other notable buildings such as Suraj Kud, Salim Nagar Talav, Jal Mahal and Nikumbha Mahal Palace.
There are many temples in the fort area of Alwar which include Kuldevi of Kumbha Nikumbha, Karni Mata Temple, Cannon with Hanuman Ji, Chakradhari Hanuman Temple, Sitaram Mandir, Jai Ashram, Salim Sagar, Salim Baradari.
