The word Pichola means ‘backyard’ and the lake was named after a nearby village ‘Picholi’. Maharana Udai Singh was fascinated by the beauty of this lake, so he built the city of Udaipur on the banks of Lake Pichola. The surroundings of the lake include palaces, marble temples, Havelis, platforms or bathing ghats that were built many centuries ago. Some of the famous palaces near this lake are Jag Niwas, Mohan Mandir, and Jag Mandir Mahal.
