Jaisalmer War Museum History
The Jaisalmer War Museum was established in 2015 by the Konark Corps of the Indian Army to honor the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during various wars and conflicts. The museum was inaugurated by the then General Officer Commanding the Konark Corps, Lt Gen Ashok Singh.
The idea of the museum was conceptualized after the success of the 2014 Desert Festival, which was organized by the Indian Army to showcase the heritage and culture of Rajasthan. The festival also included an exhibition of military equipment and vehicles, which received a positive response from the public. This encouraged the army to set up a permanent museum to showcase the history and achievements of the Indian Armed Forces.
Jaisalmer War Museum is located near Jaisalmer Air Force Station and is spread over an area of about 10 acres. It is divided into six sections, which showcase the history of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, as well as their role in various wars and conflicts. The museum also has a section dedicated to the Border Security Force (BSF) and the role played by the BSF in securing India’s borders.
